EFT, also known as Tapping, is a powerful form of mind-body healing, which integrates traditional eastern acupressure techniques with modern western methods. Simply put it is acupressure for emotions.

EFT can be used in all areas of your life where there is ‘dis-ease’, discomfort, or emotional upset. The intensity of many issues which arise can be down regulated using Tapping, since many are underpinned by emotional roots at their source.

Research has shown that both acute and chronic conditions may be improved using EFT.

EFT – How it works

Tapping on energy meridian end points, using the fingertips to stimulate them, while thinking of something that bothers you, or that you feel stuck on, the body’s energy systems are re-balanced.

By connecting the mind & emotions with the physical sensations experienced in the body as we focus on a specific issue, we enable the release of stuck energy and emotional charge associated with that issue, thus restoring energy balance in mind and body.

As we identify and eliminate unconscious blocks, our limiting beliefs are released. Consequently, EFT can also be used to enhance well-being through positive tapping practices, which invite gratitude and abundance into our lives.

Tapping is a powerful self-help tool which enables us to navigate our present circumstances, sending signals to the brain’s fear center (the Limbic System), that we are safe.

With the help of a practitioner it is possible to address more complex issues, thus empowering you towards more autonomous self-care in the future.

The origins of EFT

EFT evolved from Thought Field Therapy (TFT). TFT was created by Dr Roger Callahan, who was a practicing clinical psychologist for 30 years.

Through treatment of his patient, Mary, who had a severe water phobia, Callahan developed meridian end point mapping sequences to treat a myriad of conditions over a 20-year period. TFT requires a high degree of specificity to enable effective application to different conditions.

Gary Craig, the founder of EFT, trained with Roger Callahan. Gary simplified the array of tapping sequences required to treat various conditions into a basic recipe of a 9-Point tapping method which made it accessible to everyone, even children. This evolution from TFT became what is known today as EFT Tapping.

Tapping into the Science of EFT

There is a growing body of research into the efficacy of EFT. Leading research is sampled with relevant links to the original works.

EFT International cites research by those leading this exciting field of mind-body therapy investigation including Dr David Feinstein, a clinical psychologist with 50 years’ experience, who has carried out in depth studies in Energy Psychology, Dr Peta Stapleton and Dr. Shoshana Garfield.

‘Why Tapping Works’ by Dr David Feinstein (PhD)

David Feinstein discusses the 6 Powerful Premises about Tapping and the scientific evidence which supports them. These 6 premises are that Tapping…

  1. Is effective in treating a range of clinical conditions
  2. Can produce rapid results compared to conventional treatments
  3. Leads to durable benefits
  4. Creates changes in biological markers as well as in subjective self-reports
  5. Is the critical ingredient that produces results – it’s not just a placebo or suggestion
  6. Sends signals to specific areas of the brain, making it possible to target outcomes with unusual precision

Research from Dr Peta Stapleton:

Dr. Peta Stapleton has led the Australian research into EFT to treat a number of conditions including chronic pain, obesity, anxiety and stress.. She over 20 years experience as a registered Clinical and Health Psychologist.
